Gathering the Year: a co-writing workshop with billie lee

Thursday, December 17, 2026
10 am–12 pm Pacific / 1–3 pm Eastern · live on Zoom

Gathering the Year is a co-writing workshop to sit down with the year you just lived and ask it some questions.

Save your seat

What did this year ask of you? What did it take, and what did it leave behind? Where did it surprise you? What are you still carrying, and what are you ready to set down? What does it want you to know?

Writing is how we come to understand our lives. It can also make life: not just documenting what happened, but making meaning of it. In Gathering the Year, we’ll look back with care, zooming in on the small moments that held more than we knew, then zooming out until the larger threads come into view.

This year asked a great deal of me. My health, heart, spirit, and mind were all tested. I met shadows I never imagined would surface. I had the most interrupted sleep of my life, and it touched everything. And I decided not to go back to the career I had spent decades building, and to step into the unknown instead.

Maybe your year held its own reckonings, or lessons you haven’t yet had a moment to name. Some things are hard to look at alone. Writing alongside others gives us the steadiness to turn toward them. In that spirit, Gathering the Year invites us to turn inward, together.

What we’ll do together

I’ll guide you through a sequence of writing prompts that move through the many textures of the year. There will be unhurried time to write and room to sit with whatever comes up. Near the end, we’ll share gently, and only if you want to. No writing experience needed. Bring a notebook and pen (or your laptop), and your year.

Everyone receives the same two hours. Choose the tier that fits this season.

Good to know

Live, not recorded. To keep the space private, the workshop won’t be recorded.

The prompts are yours to keep. Afterward, everyone who registered receives the full set of prompts, whether or not you could join live.

A writing workshop, not therapy. We may touch tender material. Take breaks whenever you need them.

All sales are final. If you can’t make it, you’re welcome to pass your seat to a friend (just email me), and you’ll still receive the prompts afterward.

Your Zoom link arrives by email the week before the workshop, with a reminder the day before.

About Billie

I’m a writer, editor, and former professor. For more than 20 years I’ve held spaces for deep inquiry and reflection: in classrooms and studios, in writing circles, and in one-on-one work with people finding the words for their lives.

I also write Mothering in a Dying World, a Substack where personal story meets critical theory on care, mothering, and living through collapse.

If something opens in this workshop that you want to keep following, I also work one-on-one with writers and thinkers helping their ideas find their most resonant form.

Work with me

Come write with me as we gather the year.

The green on the banner is mugwort ink I made from the plant’s roots and stems. In the Korean creation story, a bear eats only mugwort and garlic for a hundred days in a dark cave and emerges a woman, then a mother. Across cultures, healers have used mugwort to accompany people through thresholds: birth, dreams, and the turning of one year into the next.
